Complete these AC Maintenance Tasks Before the Summer Heat Arrives

With summer just around the corner, now is a good time to make sure your AC unit is working safely and efficiently. By completing some basic maintenance tasks, you can help to ensure that your home is reliably kept at a comfortable temperature while your energy bills remain as low as possible. At Comfort Champions, our local HVAC company offers expert AC maintenance in the greater Salt Lake City area. Here’s a look at five types of AC maintenance to complete before hot summer temperatures arrive.
Check Thermostat
From time to time, it’s a good idea to check your thermostat’s temperature by taping a thermometer (one that you're confident is accurate) next to it. If your thermostat is more than three degrees off from the thermometer, then it’ll be worth having an HVAC technician take a look.
Replace Air Filter
When regularly using your AC during the toasty summer months, it’s a good idea to replace the filter each month. If you have a reusable filter, you’ll want to give it a thorough cleaning on a monthly basis. If your filter is dirty, it will be harder for your system to cool your living spaces to your desired temperature, which can increase wear and tear on your system while also increasing your energy bill.
Clean the Outside Unit
If there is plant matter growing too closely to your outside unit, then airflow could be negatively affected. Plants should be kept at least 2 to 3 feet from all sides of the unit. Also, dirt should be rinsed away from the unit. To do this, simply turn off the unit and use a gentle flow of hose water for rinsing.
Check Condenser Unit Fan
If your fan has damaged blades, then it’ll be harder for your unit to properly cool your home. So it’s a good idea to just shut off your unit and do a quick visual inspection to see if blades have any chips or cracks.
Wiring Inspection
You’ll want to make sure that your unit’s wiring isn’t creating any safety hazards. Because this is a more in-depth task, it’s best to leave it up to an experienced HVAC technician.
