How to Tell When You Need Toilet Repair
A failing toilet can make life incredibly frustrating, especially if you only have one bathroom in the house. At the first sign of a problem with your toilet, you'll want to call in a reputable plumber who can promptly diagnose the issue and get right to work on remedying it. This will get your life back to normal as soon as possible. Here's a look at six common signs that it's time for toilet repair.
Continuously Runs
A continuously running toilet is an indication that the flapper valve needs an adjustment. However, if that doesn't do the trick, then flapper replacement will probably be necessary.
Water Pooling at Toilet's Base
If water is accumulating at the toilet's base, then you've likely got a leak at the seal. By tightening the bolts that secure the toilet to the floor, you might be able to take care of the problem. But if that doesn't work, then you may need a new wax ring that will fully seal the toilet-drain pipe connection.
Crack in Tank or Bowl
For cracks that are less than 1/16th of an inch, plumber's epoxy can probably take care of the repairs. But larger cracks often mean that toilet replacement will be needed.
Tank or Bowl Doesn't Refill
An issue with the fill valve could lead to the tank or bowl not correctly refilling. Typically, this means that the valve will need to be replaced.
Rust/Corrosion
When the rust is only in a small area, you can hopefully just replace that part of the toilet. But if the rust has spread widely, then toilet replacement will likely be needed.
Flushes Only a Small Amount
If the toilet only flushes a little bit at a time, then your flushing mechanism probably needs to be repaired.
